VISUAL MERCHANDISER

We are looking for a visual merchandiser or VM in short.

Someone with a creative mind and through his or her VM experience, will help stir up enduring moments for any customer who walks into the restaurant.

The incumbent VM is also action-driven and hates desk work, unless he or she is on the Mac; we would also expect this person to be able to speak up on his or her work and be able to rationalise his or her proposal. In other words, he or she must know how to fight for his or her idea (but also need to appreciate the fact that pragmatism prevails, especially working under budget constraints).

He or she must be able to think (quick) on his or her feet, be resourceful and armed with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Riddled with the proverbial ‘bullet holes’ is a common ailment and a happenstance for anybody who works in Marketing Department; it is through this unravelling of the ‘riddle’ that crystallises breakthrough ideas. Did I forget to mention that the incumbent VM is part of the marketing team?

Now you know.

The role of this incumbent VM plays is different from other retailers’ VMs. Here, we ask you to ditch away the stereotypical roles because you are going to deal with food display and restaurant ambient. In the restaurant, styling plays a very important role: it is not just about aesthetics (and the prod-stethics: prodding up the information display), styling is also about being functional and user-friendly. Sometimes to the point that even our customers are not aware of it, yet by not doing it well, or not doing it, will incite some sniggers.

So the role this incumbent VM plays is pivotal to the branding of the restaurants or the group of restaurant because he or she is directly influencing the customers’ touch-points. Touch-points affect dining experience. A great dining experience helps to instil customer loyalty (though loyalty does not correlate with the dining experience alone)

To be that VM, we are looking for a maverick. Some are gifted with the skills while some trained under long, intense hours to garner those skills through day (or night) schools. Some are through wrought experience brought upon them through the term we called ‘working experience’.

Some may not have the savvies of restaurant experience or the decorum of a gifted mind but those are not important. What are important are aptitude, resourcefulness, and a mind that acts like a sponge: to absorb great ideas and churn out creatives with impact. In other words: it’s the results that really counts.

Reporting to the Art Director, the incumbent VM supports restaurant operations through development of marketing collaterals, props or displays; he or she is responsible for the ambient feel (not interior décor) of the restaurant that engages the customer while they dine. Importantly, the incumbent Visual Merchandiser MUST be Mac savvy as he or she works very closely with vendors, suppliers and our demanding Art Director.

If you are interested to be part of the marketing team, please send your resume with details of your education, working experience (if any) to the marketing manager at benny@zingrill.com.sg

Closing date of application: 15 January 2010 (sorry mate, we are not able to take any telephone enquiries; hope you understand and closing date is non-negotiable)

WSQ/ESS graduates are welcome to apply
